All Treats No Tricks: Halloween Skincare Hacks →

October 20, 2025

Halloween is the perfect time to unleash your creativity and experiment with dramatic makeup looks. While you may be focused on creating the perfect spooky style, it’s important to take care of your skin and not neglect your skincare routine. From heavy makeup to sugary treats, your skin can face some scary challenges if not properly cared for.

In this blog post, we’ll delve into some essential tips for maintaining healthy skin during Halloween. By following these tips, you can enjoy the festivities while ensuring your skin stays healthy and protected.

Skin Prep

Wearing heavy, theatrical costume makeup can irritate the skin and clog pores, so proper preparation is essential. First, gently exfoliate the night before to ensure a smooth makeup application. Avoid exfoliating immediately before applying your makeup, as this can cause skin irritation. Next, hydrate your skin with a moisturizing serum. Heavy makeup is often very drying, so starting with a well-moisturized skin surface will keep your skin comfortable and prevent flaking.

Finally, create a barrier layer between your skin and your makeup. You can do this with a primer or a barrier cream, providing your skin with a protective shield to help prevent breakouts and irritation. Remember to patch test any makeup you plan to use at least 24 hours before application to avoid allergic reactions.

Skin Recovery

After a night of heavy makeup, your skin will need extra care. Give it what it needs by performing a double cleanse, first with an oil-based cleanser and following up with a water-based one. This will ensure all makeup, glitter, dirt, and residual oil are properly removed from your skin.

Apply a soothing serum or sheet mask (preferably one with hyaluronic acid or aloe vera) to restore moisture and replenish stressed skin. Next, lock in hydration with a moisturizer formulated to help repair your skin barrier.

If heavy makeup has left your skin feeling irritated, temporarily pause any use of strong actives like retinoids and exfoliants. Lastly, consider going makeup-free for a day or two to give your skin some time to breathe and recover.
