3 Skincare Trends for Fall 2026 →

September 30, 2026

Whether it’s the crisp, clean air or the nostalgic back-to-school vibe, there is something about the fall season that makes you want to refresh your routine.

If you’ve been feeling the need to switch up your beauty routine, autumn is an ideal time to try something new. After all, your skin’s needs can fluctuate with the seasons, making it the perfect time to experiment with new formulas and ingredients.

Here are three simple ways to tweak your fall skincare.

Skin Milks

Skin milks are fluid, lightweight skincare formulas with a signature white, opaque, milk-like texture. Contrary to their name, most trendy “skin milks” are entirely dairy-free and vegan. They get their name solely because they replicate the soothing, silky consistency of milk. These products blend a hydrating essence with a lightweight moisturizer, designed to deeply moisturize, soothe redness, and repair the skin barrier without leaving a heavy or greasy residue. For an instant dewy glow, look for products labeled “milk” or “milky” in categories like lip treatments, toners, face mists, and moisturizers.

Matcha Magic

Matcha, the traditional Japanese green tea powder, has become the star ingredient in the latest skincare and fragrance trends. Its skin-soothing and antioxidant properties, along with its earthy aroma, make it a popular choice for both skincare and fragrance products.

For skincare benefits, look for matcha in leave-on formulas like toners, serums, moisturizers, and lip treatments. For fragrance, find matcha in perfumes and body products. To learn more about matcha’s skincare benefits, click here.

Suede Skin

After years of the high-gloss “glass skin” trend dominating the beauty scene, skincare is finally shifting its focus to embrace a more natural appearance. The “suede skin” trend embraces real skin with a softly blurred, velvety finish. To achieve this look, people are opting for next-generation, weightless SPF formulas that offer high protection and zero shine. Heavy makeup bases are being replaced with ultra-nourishing, skin-barrier-supporting tinted balms and botanical multi-sticks that keep the complexion hydrated while letting freckles and natural texture show through.

Final Thoughts

Skincare trends often swing between extremes, but incorporating a few sensible changes into your routine can benefit your skin and keep your routine from feeling stale. Always strive to align with trends that are practical and flattering (read: easy to achieve and don’t require a significant financial investment). Simple updates can rejuvenate your look and keep you feeling fresh all year.

When you browse the skincare and haircare aisle at any store, you’ve probably noticed many products with the term “sulfate-free” prominently displayed on their labels. Like parabens and phthalates, sulfates have become a somewhat controversial topic in the beauty and cleaning industries over the past few years. Intense consumer backlash and clever marketing have fueled their negative reputation.

Even if you’re not familiar with the term “medical-grade,” you’ve likely encountered medical-grade skincare products at some point in your skincare journey. These products often convey a sense of scientific rigor and may feature labels like “medical,” “professional,” or “clinical” in their branding. Some may even come in packaging that looks like it came directly from a laboratory.

Whom among us could resist the allure of Old Hollywood? Glossy red lips, fluffy pink powder puffs, and glittering gold compacts created a glamorous aura that most of us can only dream of. However, even the most beautiful flowers can be poisonous, and while vintage Hollywood may seem like a dazzling oasis in a desert of the mundane, it was not without its problems.

Needles and scalpels and lasers, oh my!

When it comes to making skincare decisions, the sheer number of treatment options can be overwhelming. It seems that the more you delve into the topic, the more complex and confusing the information becomes. And while I personally prefer topical treatments, others may want to explore their options further.

Even though I’m a hardcore skeptic when it comes to gimmicky skincare trends, I still recognize that it can be difficult to stay focused on a simple, no-nonsense routine. New ingredients, new products, and new trends are constantly emerging, and it can be challenging not to get distracted. After all, even the most tried-and-true routine can get a bit dull. But while many skincare trends are easy to ignore, skin cycling may be one trend that’s worth a second look.
