Sleepytime Skincare: My Favorite Overnight Masks →

March 10, 2025

Even the most devoted skincare enthusiast can sometimes get a little lazy. We’ve all had days when even the simplest of routines feels like a Herculean effort, especially when you only want to flop into bed and sink into blissful sleep.

Overnight masks were practically invented for situations like these, which is why they’re some of my favorite products. It’s the perfect way to treat your skin without expending too much time or energy, while also maximizing the skin-boosting benefits of sleep.

Here are my favorite overnight masks for when you want maximum results with minimal time and effort.

Dermalogica Sound Sleep Cocoon Night Gel-Cream: It’s difficult to resist a product that promises better skin and sleep all in one go. This lightweight gel cream soothes, hydrates, and brightens skin for a healthy glow by morning. Formulated for all skin types and enhanced by the aromatherapeutic qualities of lavender and sandalwood, Sound Sleep Cocoon combats dryness and dehydration, leaving skin looking and feeling revitalized. $89

Saint Jane Beauty Sacred Sleep Overnight Repair with Retinol: Perfect for normal, dry, and combination skin, this gentle but effective retinol cream supports cell turnover, while violet flower soothes redness and irritation. In my experience, this product is the only retinol cream that doesn’t irritate my skin. The texture is creamy and luxurious without being sticky or greasy. It’s a treat to use, and although pricey, it’s a long-lasting product that is an excellent value for the money. $70

Fresh Floral Recovery Calming Mask: Suitable for most skin types, this soothing overnight mask is rich in natural antioxidants. Truly a powerhouse product, the Fresh Floral Recovery Calming Mask combats multiple skin issues, including dryness, dullness, and uneven texture, all while helping to calm sensitivity. It’s gentle enough to use every day and doubles as a great nighttime moisturizer, especially during the cold winter months. $69

Antipodes Aura Manuka Honey Mask: Perhaps one of my all-time favorite products, the Aura Manuka Honey mask deeply moisturizes skin while fighting breakouts. This vegetarian mask uses wild-sourced manuka honey to lock in moisture and improve the clarity of your skin. It’s lightly scented with vanilla and mandarin and features 100% natural ingredients. $52 NZD

Note: All of the products mentioned here contain fragrance. Although I’m a dedicated advocate for fragrance-free skincare, many brands have yet to catch on to the benefits of going fragrance-free. That being said, all the products mentioned are lightly fragranced and have never irritated my sensitive skin. Still, if your skin is sensitive to fragrance, use care when trying these products. Always perform a patch test to avoid serious allergic reactions.

Whom among us could resist the allure of Old Hollywood? Glossy red lips, fluffy pink powder puffs, and glittering gold compacts created a glamorous aura that most of us can only dream of. However, even the most beautiful flowers can be poisonous, and while vintage Hollywood may seem like a dazzling oasis in a desert of the mundane, it was not without its problems.

Needles and scalpels and lasers, oh my!

When it comes to making skincare decisions, the sheer number of treatment options can be overwhelming. It seems that the more you delve into the topic, the more complex and confusing the information becomes. And while I personally prefer topical treatments, others may want to explore their options further.

Even though I’m a hardcore skeptic when it comes to gimmicky skincare trends, I still recognize that it can be difficult to stay focused on a simple, no-nonsense routine. New ingredients, new products, and new trends are constantly emerging, and it can be challenging not to get distracted. After all, even the most tried-and-true routine can get a bit dull. But while many skincare trends are easy to ignore, skin cycling may be one trend that’s worth a second look.
