5 Important Skincare Tips for Summer →

July 25, 2026

Summer is in full swing, and while the season brings sunshine and lots of outdoor fun, it also poses risks to our skin. The persistent heat, harmful UV rays, and increased humidity can cause various skin problems if we neglect proper care.

With the days still long and sunny, it’s crucial to prioritize your skin health. Read on for some simple but vital tips to help keep your skin healthy this season.

Stay Hydrated: Hot weather increases fluid loss through sweating, making hydration crucial during the summer. Hydration is essential for overall health and maintaining healthy skin. Dehydrated skin can appear dry, dull, and scaly. Drinking enough water helps flush out impurities, keeping your skin plump and preventing dryness and flakiness.

Additionally, keep your skin hydrated topically by using skincare products with ingredients like aloe and hyaluronic acid. Instead of thick moisturizers, opt for lightweight, non-comedogenic gel-creams or water-creams.

Don’t Skimp on Sunscreen: The most important summer skin tip is to apply a broad-spectrum sunscreen with an SPF of 30 or higher every day. The increasing heat and humidity require strategic adjustments to protect your skin barrier, prevent acne breakouts, and shield against UV damage. Reapply sunscreen every two hours, especially after swimming or heavy sweating. Measure your sunscreen properly by applying a nickel-sized amount to your face and using a full shot-glass size amount for your body. Don’t forget to protect your scalp’s hairline, the tops of your feet, and your lips with an SPF 30 lip balm.

Cleanse Thoroughly: To help prevent buildup, wash away sweat, salt, oil, and sunscreen daily with a gentle, non-stripping cleanser. Limit chemical or physical exfoliation to once or twice a week to avoid further irritation to your already sun-stressed skin barrier. If you wear makeup, consider switching to breathable, oil-free tinted moisturizers or BB creams with SPF to minimize clogged pores. Finally, remember to remove your makeup thoroughly at the end of the day to prevent acne flare-ups and skin irritation.

Embrace Antioxidants: Antioxidants can act as superheroes for your skin, especially during the summer months. The sun’s rays can create unstable molecules (free radicals), which can damage your skin cells. To safeguard your skin, apply an antioxidant serum (like vitamin C) in the morning to neutralize free radicals and boost sunscreen efficacy. Additionally, you can bolster your skin’s defense by increasing your antioxidant intake. Ensure that your diet is rich in foods like berries, citrus fruits, and leafy greens.

After-Sun Care: After a day spent in the sun, take a refreshing shower to cleanse your skin and remove any sweat or sunscreen residue. Afterward, apply a hydrating and soothing moisturizer to replenish the moisture lost during the day. If you’ve been sunburned, apply aloe vera gel to soothe the affected areas. Avoid picking at peeling skin and stay away from heat sources like hot showers to prevent further irritation.

Final Thoughts

Maintaining healthy skin during the sultry summer days can be a challenge. Proper skincare during this season involves not only shielding your skin from the sun’s harmful rays but also ensuring it remains hydrated and well-nourished. By following these tips, you can enjoy the sunny season while preserving your skin’s health and vitality.

Whom among us could resist the allure of Old Hollywood? Glossy red lips, fluffy pink powder puffs, and glittering gold compacts created a glamorous aura that most of us can only dream of. However, even the most beautiful flowers can be poisonous, and while vintage Hollywood may seem like a dazzling oasis in a desert of the mundane, it was not without its problems.

Even though I’m a hardcore skeptic when it comes to gimmicky skincare trends, I still recognize that it can be difficult to stay focused on a simple, no-nonsense routine. New ingredients, new products, and new trends are constantly emerging, and it can be challenging not to get distracted. After all, even the most tried-and-true routine can get a bit dull. But while many skincare trends are easy to ignore, skin cycling may be one trend that’s worth a second look.
